Syntypes: (several) NMW 65333 (2). Type catalog: Ferraris et al. 2017:[7] [ref. 35236]. Species illustrated and described in more detail in Steindachner 1881:14, Pl. 5 (fig. 7) [ref. 14299]. •Synonym of Apteronotus bonapartii (Castelnau 1855) -- (Mago-Leccia 1994:29 [ref. 21320]). •Valid as "Apteronotus" macrolepis (Steindachner 1881) -- (Albert 2001:110 [ref. 25614], Albert in Reis et al. 2003:498 [ref. 27061], Triques 2007:85 [ref. 29060], Triques 2011:301 [ref. 31671], Barriga Salazar 2014:116 [ref. 35745], Ferraris et al. 2017:[7] [ref. 35236], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:68 [ref. 35633]). Current status: Valid as Apteronotus macrolepis (Steindachner 1881). Apteronotidae: Apteronotinae. Distribution: Amazon River basin: Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia and Peru. Habitat: freshwater.
