csikii, Phoxinus Hankó [B.] 1922:1, Pl. 1 (figs. 1-3) [A Magyar Tudományos Akadémia Balkán-Kutatásainak tudományos eredményei. v. 1; ref. 16373] Rožaje [Rozaj], on the Ibar River, tributary to the Zapadna Morava river, a tributary of the Danube, Montenegro, 42°50′39″N, 20°10′00″E. Neotype: NMW 98673 [ex 51266:2]. Original types MNH (2), destroyed by fire in 1956. Neotype designated by Palandačić et al. 2017:3 [ref. 35648]. •Synonym of Phoxinus phoxinus (Linnaeus 1758) -- (Kottelat 1997:74 [ref. 22952], Kottelat 2007:156 [ref. 29201]). •Valid as Phoxinus csikii Hankó 1922 -- (Palandačić et al. 2017:14 [ref. 35519], Palandačić et al. 2017:3 [ref. 35648], Denys & Manne 2019:199 [ref. 36790], Bogutskaya et al. 2019:8 [ref. 37234], Denys et al. 2020:213 [ref. 37846], Palandačić et al. 2022:[4] [ref. 39189]). Current status: Valid as Phoxinus csikii Hankó 1922. Leuciscidae: Phoxininae. Distribution: Europe: Danube River system: from the Balkans to Germany, and the upper Rhine basin west to Lake Geneva; introduced in the lower Rhine, Germany, The Netherlands, France, and northern Italy. Habitat: freshwater.
