Holotype (unique): BMNH 1860.6.16.181. •Synonym of Belone microps Günther 1866, but a valid subspecies -- (Mees 1962:56 [ref. 13277]). •Valid as Pseudotylosurus angusticeps (Günther 1866) -- (Collette 1974:180 [ref. 7131], Ortega & Vari 1986:18 [ref. 9708], Gómez & Chebez 1996:67 [ref. 23791], Britski et al. 1999:141 [ref. 24147], Lovejoy & de Araújo 2000:261 [ref. 31786], Lovejoy & Collette 2001:329 [ref. 25232], Lovejoy & Collette in Reis et al. 2003:587 [ref. 27061], Collette 2003:5 [ref. 27306], López et al. 2003:72 [ref. 27366], Menezes & Figueiredo in Menezes et al. 2003:67 [ref. 27192], Menni 2004:85 [ref. 28131], Barriga Salazar 2014:117 [ref. 35745], Sarmiento et al. 2014:32, 183 [ref. 35004], Mirande & Koerber 2015:54 [ref. 35117], Koerber et al. 2017:74 [ref. 35267], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:27 [ref. 39298]). Distribution: South America: upper Amazon and Paraguay-Paraná River basins (Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru). Two records from lower Amazon. Habitat: freshwater.
