Rivulus ornatus and R. obscurus were described by Garman in the same publication; they are regarded as synonyms by some recent authors -- first reviser [Costa 1993] chose ornatus. •Valid as Rivulus obscurus Garman 1895 -- (Huber 1992:336 [ref. 20639], Lazara 2001:282 [ref. 25711], Hrbek et al. 2004:569 [ref. 27910], Vermeulen & Hrbek 2005:7 [ref. 28142]). •Synonym of Rivulus ornatus Garman 1895 -- (Costa in Reis et al. 2003:538 [ref. 27061], Costa 2006:147 [ref. 28875], Costa & Lazzarotto 2008:130 [ref. 29870]). •Synonym of Anablepsoides ornatus (Garman 1895) Current status: Synonym of Anablepsoides ornatus (Garman 1895). Rivulidae: Rivulinae. Distribution: South America: Middle Amazon River basin, Brazil [if valid]. Habitat: freshwater.
