gyrinus, Centromochlus Eigenmann [C. H.] & Allen [W. R.] 1942:118, Pl. 5 (fig. 4) [Fishes of western South America; ref. 1246] Río Itaya, Iquitos, Peru. Holotype (unique): CAS 36979 [ex IU 15795]. Type catalog: Ferraris 2007:77 [ref. 29155]. The specific name is probably a Latinization of the Greek gyrinos [tadpole], an indeclinable noun. •Valid as Tatia gyrinus (Eigenmann & Allen 1942) [often seen as gyrina] -- (Ortega & Vari 1986:14 [ref. 9708], Burgess 1989:242 [ref. 12860], Soares-Porto 1995:205 [ref. 21882], Soares-Porto 1998:333 [ref. 23848], Ferraris in Reis et al. 2003:477 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:77 [ref. 29155], Sarmento-Soares & Martins-Pinheiro 2008:519 [ref. 29857], Pavanelli & Bifi 2009:200 [ref. 30255], Vari & Ferraris 2013:401 [ref. 32917], Vari & Calegari 2014:673 [ref. 33612], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:86 [ref. 35633], Calegari et al. 2019:[82] [ref. 36961], Sarmento-Soares & Martins-Pinheiro 2020:128 [ref. 37877], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:23 [ref. 39298]). Current status: Valid as Tatia gyrinus (Eigenmann & Allen 1942). Auchenipteridae: Centromochlinae. Distribution: South America: Amazon River basin (Brazil, Colombia and Peru) and ?Suriname. Habitat: freshwater.
