Type catalog: Ibarra & Stewart 1987:24 [ref. 12367], Böhlke 1984:23 [ref. 13621]. •Synonym of Chirostoma jordani Woolman 1894 -- (Dyer in Reis et al. 2003:519 [ref. 27061]). •Valid as Menidia mezquital (Meek 1904) -- (Miller 2006:199 [ref. 28615]). •Valid as Chirostoma mezquital Meek 1904 -- (Espinosa Pérez et al. 1993:60 [ref. 22290], Nelson et al. 2004:98 [ref. 27807], Scharpf 2007:8 [ref. 30398], Page et al. 2013:100 [ref. 32708]). Current status: Valid as Chirostoma mezquital Meek 1904. Atherinopsidae: Menidiinae. Distribution: Headwaters of Río Mezquital, Mexico. Habitat: freshwater.
