Lectotype not established by Böhlke 1984 but established by Gilbert 1998:247 [ref. 23395]. •Synonym of Lepomis macrochirus Rafinesque 1819 -- (La Rivers 1994:566 [ref. 23389] as purpurascens). •Synonym of Lepomis macrochirus Rafinesque 1819, but a valid subspecies -- (Robison & Buchanan 1988:371 [ref. 23393], Scott & Crossman 1998:720 [ref. 24570], Ross et al. 2001:418 [ref. 25978], Moyle 2002:381 [ref. 26449]). •Synonym of Lepomis macrochirus Rafinesque 1819, subspecies macrochirus -- (Gilbert 1998:247 [ref. 23395]).
