Original genus should have been Cichlasoma. •Valid as Cichlaurus ornatum (Regan 1905) -- (Ovchynnyk 1967:42 [ref. 37559]). •Valid as Nandopsis ornata (Regan 1905) -- (Burgess 2000:48 [ref. 24818] as ornatum). •Valid as Cichlasoma ornatum Regan 1905 -- (Kullander in Reis et al. 2003:624 [ref. 27061] as incertae sedis in 'Cichlasoma', Barriga Salazar 2014:118 [ref. 35745], Jiménez-Prado et al. 2015:333 [ref. 34894]). •Valid as Mesoheros ornatus (Regan 1905) --- (McMahan et al. 2015:228 [ref. 33920], Musilová et al. 2015:339 [ref. 35426], Říčan et al. 2016:29 [ref. 34357] dated 1906, DoNascimiento et al. 2017:100 [ref. 35633]). Current status: Valid as Mesoheros ornatus (Regan 1905). Cichlidae: Cichlinae. Distribution: South America: Colombia and Ecuador. Habitat: freshwater.
