cincta, Crenicichla Regan [C. T.] 1905:166 [Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London 1905, v. 1 (pt 2) (art. 1) (for 7 Mar. 1905); ref. 12256] Marajó Island, Pará, Brazil. Holotype (unique): MNHN 1902-0095. Replacement name for Crenicichla brasiliensis var. fasciatus Pellegrin 1904. Secondarily preoccupied by Cychla fasciata Jardine 1843 in Crenicichla. Regan erroneously named BMNH 1895.3.29:32 as holotype. As a replacement name, cincta automatically takes Pellegrin's type (Art. 72.7 of the Code). •Valid as Crenicichla cincta Regan 1905 -- (Ortega & Vari 1986:20 [ref. 9708], Kullander 1997:285 [ref. 22746], Ploeg 1991:66 [ref. 20196], Kullander in Reis et al. 2003:627 [ref. 27061], Barriga Salazar 2014:118 [ref. 35745], Varella & Ito 2018:11 [ref. 35884], Bogotá-Gregory et al. 2020:1403 [ref. 37878], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:28 [ref. 39298]). •Valid as Lugubria cincta (Regan 1905) -- (Varella et al. 2023:2 [ref. 40273]). Replacement Name. Current status: Valid as Lugubria cincta (Regan 1905). Cichlidae: Cichlinae. Distribution: South America: Amazon River basin, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Habitat: freshwater.
