Lectotype: BMNH 1921.9.6.179. Paralectotypes: BMNH 1921.9.6.180 (1). Lectotype selected by Eccles & Trewavas 1989:245 [ref. 13547]. •Valid as Buccochromis atritaeniatus (Regan 1922) -- (Eccles & Trewavas 1989:244 [ref. 13547], Maréchal 1991:29 [ref. 20944], Snoeks & Hanssens 2004:268 [ref. 28117]). •Synonym of Buccochromis nototaenia (Boulenger 1902) -- (Konings 2016:423 [ref. 34521]). Current status: Valid as Buccochromis atritaeniatus (Regan 1922). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: Eastern Africa: Lake Malawi. Habitat: freshwater.
