Lectotype: BMNH 1935.6.14.791. Paralectotypes: BMNH 1935.6.14.792-800 (13); MNHN 1937-0171 [ex BMNH] (1). Type catalog: Blanc 1962:211 [ref. 20868]. Lectotype selected by Eccles & Trewavas 1989:56 [ref. 13547] •Synonym of Protomelas marginatus (Trewavas 1935), but a valid subspecies as described -- (Eccles & Trewavas 1989:56 [ref. 13547], Maréchal 1991:390 [ref. 20944], Konings 2016:320 [ref. 34521]). Current status: Synonym of Protomelas marginatus (Trewavas 1935). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Habitat: freshwater.
