alfari, Cichlasoma Meek [S. E.] 1907:148 [Field Columbian Museum, Zoölogical Series v. 7 (no. 5); ref. 15159] Turrialba, Costa Rica. Holotype: FMNH 6032. Paratypes: FMNH 6033 (3, plus 1 outside size range given in orig. descr.). Type catalog: Ibarra & Stewart 1987:25 [ref. 12367]. Gilbert & Kelso 1971:36 [ref. 7678] emended the specific name to alfaroi stating name was for Dr. A. Alfaro, but that spelling apparently has not been adopted by subsequent workers. •Valid as Cichlasoma alfari Meek 1907 -- (Bussing 1987:188 [ref. 22927], Conkel 1993:87 [ref. 22949]). •Valid as Astatheros alfari (Meek 1907) -- (Bussing 1998:318 [ref. 24179]). •Valid as Amphilophus alfari (Meek 1907) -- (Loiselle 1997:2 [ref. 23115], Burgess 2000:54 [ref. 24818], Kullander in Reis et al. 2003:609 [ref. 27061], Matamoros et al. 2009:20 [ref. 31241], Angulo et al. 2013:1004 [ref. 33194]). •Valid as Cribroheros alfari (Meek 1907) -- (Říčan et al. 2016:23 [ref. 34357], Angulo et al. 2023:51 [ref. 40676]). Current status: Valid as Cribroheros alfari (Meek 1907). Cichlidae: Cichlinae. Distribution: Central America: Atlantic slope of Hondurus to Costa Rica (Costa Rica, Honduras and Nicaragua). Habitat: freshwater.
