pulchellus, Liparis Ayres [W. O.] 1855:26 [The Pacific [newspaper] v. 4 (nos 7-22); ref. 13428] San Francisco market, probably taken in San Francisco Bay, California, U.S.A. Holotype (unique): apparently lost. Name was spelled three ways in original: pulchellus, pulchlelus, and pulchellas. Appeared first as above on 12 Jan.; then in Ayres 1855:23 [ref. 159] in which name was spelled consistently as pulchellus. •Valid as Liparis pulchellus Ayres 1855 -- (Eschmeyer & Herald 1983:193 [ref. 9277], McAllister 1990:211 [ref. 14674], Mecklenburg et al. 2002:583 [ref. 25968], Chernova et al. 2004:28 [ref. 27592], Nelson et al. 2004:125 [ref. 27807], Love et al. 2005:105 [ref. 37547], Chernova 2008:840 [ref. 30236], Page et al. 2013:128 [ref. 32708], Pietsch & Orr 2015:54 [ref. 34694], Kells et al. 2016:218 [ref. 35888], Burton & Lea 2019:71 [ref. 37205], Love et al. 2021:140 [ref. 39279]). Current status: Valid as Liparis pulchellus Ayres 1855. Liparidae. Distribution: Northeastern Pacific: southeastern Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands south to central California (U.S.A.). Habitat: marine.
