Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Cataphractus americanus Bloch & Schneider 1801. Also was based on previous authors (Linnaeus, etc.), but apparently independent of Cataphractus americanus Bloch & Schneider 1801 as no reference was made to Bloch & Schneider. Lectotype selected by Sabaj Pérez 2014:127 [ref. 33305]. •Synonym of Acanthodoras cataphractus (Linnaeus 1758) -- (Sabaj Pérez 2014:119 [ref. 33305]) 1°Homonym.
