Holotype (unique): BMNH 1880.7.28.5. Based on Neophrynichthys latus (in part) of Günther 1881:20, pl. 1 [ref. 2012]. •Valid as Neophrynichthys marmoratus Gill 1889 -- (Nelson 1977:501 [ref. 7034], Nakamura in Nakamura et al. 1986:188 [ref. 14235], Pequeño 1989:57 [ref. 14125]). •Valid as Psychrolutes marmoratus (Gill 1889) -- (Nelson 1995:69 [ref. 22668], Mabragaña et al. 2011:table S2 [ref. 31800], Nión et al. 2016:45 [ref. 35565] with author as Gill 1889). Current status: Valid as Psychrolutes marmoratus (Gill 1889). Psychrolutidae. Distribution: Southeastern Pacific and southwestern Atlantic: Chile to Argentina. Habitat: marine.
