Not an independent species description, but based on Sciaena nageb Forsskål 1775 and Sciaena nageb Bonnaterre 1788, with different genus allocation; description also based on new material (see Fricke 2008:37 [ref. 30182]). Kottelat (2013:348) differs in his interpretation. •Synonym of Pomadasys argenteus (Forsskål 1775) -- (Dor 1984:150 [ref. 29757], Fricke 2008:37 [ref. 30182], Kottelat 2013:348 [ref. 32989], Parenti 2019:167 [ref. 37021]).
