nageb, Pristipoma Rüppell [W. P. E. S.] 1838:124, Pl. 30 (fig. 2) [Neue Wirbelthiere zu der Fauna von Abyssinien gehörig. Fische des Rothen Meeres; ref. 3844] Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, Red Sea; Red Sea. Syntypes: ZMUC P48218 (1, dry skin). Lectotype erroneously established by Dor 1984:151 [ref. 29757] as SMF 1756, with paralectotypes SMF 7523-24 (2), 7527 (1, skeleton); these specimens cannot be considered as type material. Not an independent species description, but based on Sciaena nageb Forsskål 1775 and Sciaena nageb Bonnaterre 1788, with different genus allocation; description also based on new material (see Fricke 2008:37 [ref. 30182]). Kottelat (2013:348) differs in his interpretation. •Synonym of Pomadasys argenteus (Forsskål 1775) -- (Dor 1984:150 [ref. 29757], Fricke 2008:37 [ref. 30182], Kottelat 2013:348 [ref. 32989], Parenti 2019:167 [ref. 37021]). Current status: Synonym of Pomadasys argenteus (Forsskål 1775). Haemulidae: Haemulinae. Habitat: brackish, marine.
