Originally nigro-maculata, correction mandatory. Schomburgk prepared the drawings, and he should be included as an author. •Synonym of Cichla monoculus Spix & Agassiz 1831 -- (Kullander in Reis et al. 2003:620 [ref. 27061]). •Synonym of Cichla ocellaris Bloch & Schneider 1801 -- (Willis et al. 2012:18 [ref. 37399], Sabaj et al. 2020:70 [ref. 37398]). •Valid as Cichla nigromaculata Jardine & Schomburgk 1843 -- (Kullander & Ferreira 2006:315 [ref. 28883] with author of nigromaculata as Jardine, Silvano et al. 2020:341 [ref. 38134]). Current status: Valid as Cichla nigromaculata Jardine & Schomburgk 1843. Cichlidae: Cichlinae. Distribution: South America: upper Orinoco and Casiquiare tributaries and the middle Negro River (Brazil and Venezuela). Habitat: freshwater.
