Holotype (unique): NMW 14618. Appeared first in the abstract as above, then in Steindachner 1866:445, Pl. 5 (fig. 2) [ref. 4210] as Sciaena (Corvina) novae Hollandiae; also on p. 22 of separate. Originally as Novae Hollandiae; correction mandatory. •Questionably a synonym of Johnius coitor (Hamilton 1822) -- (Trewavas 1977:418 [ref. 4459]). •Valid as Johnius novaehollandiae (Steindachner 1866) -- (Johnson 1999:737 [ref. 25471]). •Synonym of Johnius coitor (Hamilton 1822) -- (Talwar 1995:100 [ref. 25194], Bray et al. 2006:1260 [ref. 29091]). •Questionable synonym of Johnius australis (Günther 1880) -- (Parenti 2020:20 [ref. 37439]). Current status: Uncertain as Johnius australis (Günther 1880). Sciaenidae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
