unipennis, Chironectes Cuvier [G.] 1817:435, Pl. 18 (fig. 3) [Mémoires du Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle, Paris v. 3; ref. 1015] Australian seas, voyage de Péron 1800-1804 [Probably Tasmania]. Holotype (unique): MNHN A-4630. Type catalog: Pietsch et al. 1987:143 [ref. 6339]. As above in text, as unipinnis in figure caption. As unipinnis in Cuvier 1829:252 [ref. 995]. Name used to replace for Lophius laevis Lacepède 1804, preoccupied by Lophis laevis Latrielle 1804. From the text it appears not to be an intentional replacement name but merely the next available name (see Whitley 1936 [ref. 6397]). •Valid as Brachionichthys unipennis (Cuvier 1817) -- (Paxton et al. 1989:276 [ref. 12442]). •Valid as Sympterichthys unipennis (Cuvier 1817) -- (Last et al. 2007:53 [ref. 29447], Last & Gomon 2008:376 [ref. 30638], Last & Gledhill 2009:55 [ref. 30518]). Current status: Valid as Sympterichthys unipennis (Cuvier 1817). Brachionichthyidae. Distribution: Tasmania, Australia. Habitat: marine.
