Holotype: CAS 77093 [ex IU 13940]. Paratypes: CAS 77094 [ex IU 13656], 82268 [ex IU 13940] (2), 82269 [ex IU 13946]; UMMZ (2). Type catalog: Ferraris 2007:228 [ref. 29155]. Original genus is correctly Chaetostoma. Based on Chaetostomus anomalus Regan 1903 (in part, specimens from Merida and mountain streams above it). •Valid as Chaetostoma dorsale Eigenmann 1922 -- (Isbrücker 1980:60 [ref. 2303], Burgess 1989:435 [ref. 12860], Isbrücker 2001:26 [ref. 25653], Isbrücker 2002:13 [ref. 27178], Fisch-Muller in Reis et al. 2003:380 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:228 [ref. 29155], Ballen 2011:388 [ref. 31653], Lujan et al. 2015:666 [ref. 33975], Ballen et al. 2016:194 [ref. 34396], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:79 [ref. 35633], Urbano-Bonilla et al. 2018:75 [ref. 35773], Urbano-Bonilla & Ballen 2021:12 [ref. 38058]). Current status: Valid as Chaetostoma dorsale Eigenmann 1922. Loricariidae: Hypostominae. Distribution: Orinoco River basin: Colombia and Venezuela. Habitat: freshwater.
