Syntypes: (20) BMNH 1897.7.5.8-9 (2); ZIN 10904-05 (1, 2); ?NMW 29176 (1). •Synonym of Neogobius syrman (Nordmann 1840), but a valid subspecies eurystomus Kessler 1877 -- (Berg 1949:1089 [ref. 20662], Mitrofanov & Dukravec 1989:277 [ref. 37748]). •Synonym of Neogobius syrman (Nordmann 1840) -- (Coad 1995:31 [ref. 23608], Vasil'eva 1998:143 [ref. 23591], Pinchuk et al. 2003:377 [ref. 27348]). •Synonym of Ponticola syrman (Nordmann 1840) -- (Neilson & Stepien 2009:96 [ref. 30487], Esmaeili et al. 2010:378 [ref. 33391] as a valid subspecies, Jouladeh-Roudbar et al. 2015:899 [ref. 34062] as a valid subspecies, Esmaeili et al. 2018:67 [ref. 36089] possibly as a valid subspecies, Jouladeh-Roudbar et al. 2020:245 [ref. 37983], Parenti 2021:76 [ref. 38603]). Current status: Synonym of Ponticola syrman (Nordmann 1840). Gobiidae: Gobiinae. Distribution: Eurasia: Caspian Sea (if valid). Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
