buttikoferi, Chromis Hubrecht [A. A. W.] 1881:66 [Notes from the Leyden Museum v. 3 (no. 2); ref. 14287] St. Paul River, Liberia. Syntypes: RMMH 5269 (3). Named after Johann B├╝ttikofer from the German part of Switzerland, so corrected to b├╝ttikoferi and emended to buettikoferi (Art. 32.5.2.1). •Valid as Tilapia buttikoferi (Hubrecht 1881) -- (Lévêque et al. 1989:122 [ref. 26480] dated 1883, Paugy et al. 1990:343 [ref. 26477], Teugels & Thys van den Audenaerde 1991:484 [ref. 20943], Teugels & Thys van den Audenaerde in Lévêque et al. 1992:749 [ref. 21590], Scharpf 2009:10 [ref. 30400], Dunz & Schliewen 2010:2 [ref. 30890], Kottelat 2013:375 [ref. 32989]). •Valid as Heterotilapia buttikoferi (Hubrecht 1881) -- (Dunz & Schliewen 2013:73 [ref. 32672], Robins et al. 2018:381 [ref. 35886]). •Valid as Heterotilapia buettikoferi (Hubrecht 1881). Current status: Valid as Heterotilapia buettikoferi (Hubrecht 1881). Cichlidae: Pseudocrenilabrinae. Distribution: West Africa: Guinea-Bissau to western Liberia; established in Florida, U.S.A.; introduced in Singapore. IUCN (2020): Least concern. Habitat: freshwater.
