australiensis, Gnathagnus elongatus Kishimoto [H.] 1989:310, Fig. 2 [Japanese Journal of Ichthyology v. 36 (no. 3); ref. 13562] Northwest Shelf, 190 kilometers northwest of Port Hedland, Western Australia, 18°10'S, 118°18'E, depth 299 meters. Holotype: AMS I.22821-014. Paratypes: AMS I.22821-051 (3), I.23423-002 (1); WAM P.19119-001 (1), P.28072-006 (2), P.28086-001 (2). Type catalog: Hutchins & Smith 1991:35 [ref. 19335], Moore et al. 2008:39 [ref. 30117]. •Synonym of Xenocephalus australiensis (Kishimoto 1989) but a valid subspecies as described -- (Kishimoto 2001:3531 [ref. 26287]). •Valid as Xenocephalus australiensis (Kishimoto 1989) -- (Hutchins 2001:41 [ref. 25847], Bray & Hoese 2006:1515 [ref. 29049], Vilasri 2013:91 [ref. 33304], Psomadakis et al. 2020:536 [ref. 37272]). Current status: Valid as Xenocephalus australiensis (Kishimoto 1989). Uranoscopidae. Distribution: Eastern Indian Ocean, western Pacific. Habitat: marine.
