Description based on drawing in BMNH labelled Clupea fimbriata, claimed to be by George Forster, but no such drawing found by Whitehead, 1978; more likely based on a tracing by Sarah Bowdich of her own drawing. •Synonym of Ethmalosa fimbriata (Bowdich 1825) -- (Poll et al. 1984:42 [ref. 6172], Whitehead 1985:219 [ref. 5141], Whitehead 1990:210 [ref. 14039]).
