Also in Peters 1868:11, Pl. 2 (fig. 1) [ref. 3440]. •Synonym of Acanthopagrus berda (Forsskål 1775) -- (Smith & Smith 1986:581 [ref. 5710], Bauchot & Skelton 1986:331 [ref. 6210], Bray et al. 2006:1226 [ref. 29091], Iwatsuki et al. 2006:406 [ref. 29239], Kume & Yoshino 2008:53 [ref. 29572]). •Valid as Acanthopagrus vagus (Peters 1852) -- (Heemstra & Heemstra 2004:212 [ref. 28072], Iwatsuki & Heemstra 2010:130 [ref. 30738], Iwatsuki et al. 2010:115 [ref. 31106], Iwatsuki 2013:87 [ref. 32744], Parenti 2019:71 [ref. 36892], Iwatsuki & Heemstra 2022:290 [ref. 39785], Pombo-Ayora et al. 2022:9 [ref. 39454]). Current status: Valid as Acanthopagrus vagus (Peters 1852). Sparidae. Distribution: Southwestern Indian Ocean: Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) north to southern Mozambique. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
