O.] & Etzel [V.] 1983:4, Pl.; Fig. 3 [Killi-contact: Périodique bimestriel / Association Killiphile Francophone de Belgique v. 11 (no. nos 2-3); ref. 8590] 11 miles north of Kenema, Kenema District, 8°00'N, 11°07'W, southeastern Sierra Leone. Holotype: ZMH 6133. Paratypes: Berkenkamp coll. HOB 0187-17 (4), SMF 17826 (2), ZMH 6454 (3). Type catalog: Wilkens & Dohse 1993:416 [ref. 21161]. •Synonym of Epiplatys fasciolatus (Günther 1866), but a valid subspecies -- (Wildekamp 1996:64 [ref. 23649]). •Valid as Epiplatys josianae Berkenkamp & Etzel 1983 -- (Wildekamp et al. 1986:253 [ref. 6198], Paugy et al. 1990:342 [ref. 26477], Romand in Lévêque et al. 1992:636 [ref. 21590], Lazara 2001:108 [ref. 25711], Huber 2024:52 [ref. 41036]). Current status: Valid as Epiplatys josianae Berkenkamp & Etzel 1983. Nothobranchiidae. Distribution: West Africa: southeastern Sierra Leone. Habitat: freshwater.
