Holotype: CAS 75992. Paratypes: AMS I.31223-001 (2); BMNH 1991.5.20.2-3 (2); BPBM 12782 (2), 13683 (1), 13695 (2), 16524 (5), 16687 (9); CAS 63215 (7); NSMT-P 34680 (3); USNM 316515 (3). •Valid as Chromis bami Randall & McCosker 1992 -- (Randall 1999:19 [ref. 25829], Randall 2001:99 [ref. 25124], Randall et al. 2004:20 [ref. 27624], Randall 2005:355 [ref. 28239], Parenti 2021:50 [ref. 38418]). •Valid as Pycnochromis bami (Randall & McCosker 1992) -- (Tang et al. 2021:267 [ref. 38308]). Current status: Valid as Pycnochromis bami (Randall & McCosker 1992). Pomacentridae: Chrominae. Distribution: South Pacific: Tonga, Society Islands, Austral Islands and Pitcairn. Habitat: marine.
