A.] 1993:103, Fig. 2 [Ichthyological Exploration of Freshwaters v. 4 (no. 2); ref. 20831] Mouth of left bank tributary of Río Mawarinuma (= River Baria), Río Negro, Amazonas, Venezuela, 0°55'N, 66°10'W, elevation 120 meters. Holotype: AMNH 98287 [ex 78728]. Paratypes: AMNH 78717-18 (2, 2), 78721 (1), 78725 (2, 17), 78728 (orig. 41, 25, 2 c&s), 78729 (2); FMNH 101111 [ex AMNH 78728] (5); MBUCV-V-14926 (19), V-21752 [ex AMNH 78728] (5); UMMZ 219457 [ex AMNH 78728] (5). Type catalog: Provenzano et al. 1998:12 [ref. 24196]. Species spelled omospilus and omospilum in original description; the spelling omospilus is given in the main species heading and as a noun in apposition in the etymology. The spelling omospilus is here (W.N.E.) regarded as the correct spelling. •Valid as Leptocharacidium omospilus Buckup 1993 -- (Buckup 1993:325 [ref. 26741], Buckup in Reis et al. 2003:92 [ref. 27061], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:35 [ref. 35633]). Current status: Valid as Leptocharacidium omospilus Buckup 1993. Crenuchidae: Characidiinae. Distribution: Negro and upper Orinoco River basins, Venezuela and Colombia. Habitat: freshwater.
