diazi, Hypopomus Fernández-Yépez [A.] 1972:20, Pl. 21 [Análisis ictiológico del complejo hidrográfico; ref. 19696] Río Alpargatón, Río Yaracuy drainage, Estado Carabobo, Venezuela. Holotype: no repository stated. Paratypes: (1). Type catalog: Ferraris et al. 2017:[22] [ref. 35236]. Appeared originally as diazi, but named for Miss María Isabel (Betty) Díaz, therefore the correct species epithet would be diazae, not to be corrected according to the ICZN. •Valid as Hypopomus diazi Fernández-Yépez 1972 -- (Hopkins 1991:155 [ref. 19506]). •Synonym of Brachyhypopomus occidentalis Regan 1914 -- (Triques & Khamis 2003:61 [ref. 27465]). •Valid as Brachyhypopomus diazi (Fernández-Yépez 1972) -- (Mago-Leccia 1994:48 [ref. 21320], Albert & Crampton in Reis et al. 2003:495 [ref. 27061], Giora et al. 2008:159 [ref. 29707], Giora & Malabarba 2009:60 [ref. 30168], Sullivan & Hopkins 2009:183 [ref. 30151], Almirón et al. 2010:572 [ref. 31124], de Santana & Crampton 2011:1154 [ref. 31643], Sullivan et al. 2013:3 [ref. 32879], Crampton et al. 2016:56 [ref. 34832], Crampton et al. 2017:708 [ref. 35114], Ferraris et al. 2017:[22] [ref. 35236]). Current status: Valid as Brachyhypopomus diazi (Fernández-Yépez 1972). Hypopomidae. Distribution: South America: northwestern Venezuela and Llanos of Orinoco basin, trans- and cis-Andean drainages. Habitat: freshwater.
