Type catalog: Oyakawa 1996:454 [ref. 23140], Provenzano et al. 1998:5 [ref. 24196]. •Valid as Caenotropus mestomorgmatos Vari, Castro & Raredon 1995 -- (Vari & Ortega 1997:78 [ref. 22865] as mestomorgmatus, Vari & Raredon in Reis et al. 2003:85 [ref. 27061], Scharcansky & Lucena 2007:59 [ref. 29251], DoNascimiento et al. 2017:41 [ref. 35633]). Current status: Valid as Caenotropus mestomorgmatos Vari, Castro & Raredon 1995. Chilodontidae. Distribution: Amazon and Orinoco river basins: Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela. Habitat: freshwater.
