Paratypes: MZUSP 48375 (4); UMMZ 228961 [ex USNM 218830] (6, 2 c&s); USNM 218830 (?15, 2 c&s), 228961 (4, 2 c&s), 326120 (3), 338272 (28, 2 c&s), 338273 (14). Type catalog: Ferraris et al. 2017:[35] [ref. 35236]. •Valid as Sternopygus xingu Albert & Fink 1996 -- (Albert in Reis et al. 2003:489 [ref. 27061], Crampton et al. 2004:249 [ref. 27652], Crampton et al. 2004:124 [ref. 27764], Hulen et al. 2005:412 [ref. 28485], Ferraris et al. 2017:[35] [ref. 35236]). Current status: Valid as Sternopygus xingu Albert & Fink 1996. Sternopygidae: Sternopyginae. Distribution: Xingu and lower Tocantins River basins, Brazil. Habitat: freshwater.
