Neotype designated by Ready et al. 2006:208 [ref. 29520]. Original as Symphysodon Discus Tarzoo from Leticia, Colombia. Species name appeared as conditional proposal but is available according to Kullander 1996:16 [ref. 31368]. See also discussion in Bleher & Bailey 2011:1306 [ref. 31397]. •Synonym of Symphysodon aequifasciatus Pellegrin 1904 -- (Kullander 1986:226 [ref. 12439], Kullander in Reis et al. 2003:642 [ref. 27061], Bleher & Bailey 2011:1306 [ref. 31397]). •Valid as Symphysodon tarzoo Lyons 1959 -- (Ready et al. 2006:208 [ref. 29520], Amado et al. 2011:13 [ref. 38953], Meza-Vargas et al. 2021:28 [ref. 39298]). Current status: Valid as Symphysodon tarzoo Lyons 1959. Cichlidae: Cichlinae. Distribution: South America: western Amazon basin (Brazil, Colombia and Peru). Habitat: freshwater.
