Syntypes: (3) NMW 63053 (1). Originally described as above, sometimes spelled lapradii in literature. Species later illustrated and described in more detail in Steindachner 1870:103 [p. 1 of separate], Pls. 1-2, [ref. 14100]. •Synonym of Polypterus bichir Lacepède 1803 [but with authorship as Geoffroy St. Hilaire 1802], but a valid subspecies -- (Gosse 1984:20 [ref. 6169], Lévêque et al. 1989:113 [ref. 26480], Gosse in Lévêque et al. 1990:82 [ref. 21589]). •Synonym of Polypterus bichir Lacepède 1803 -- (Moritz & Britz 2019:[19] [ref. 36886]). Current status: Synonym of Polypterus bichir Lacepède 1803. Polypteridae. Habitat: freshwater.
