Holotype (unique): not captured. Regarded as unavailable on the basis of Art. 13.1.1 of the Code -- names published after 1930 must be accompanied by a description of definition in words characters that are purported to differentiate the taxon; the only character mentioned in words by the Burgess & Axelrod is "... with even broader dark bands." Subsequently described in an available way by Hoese & Reader 2001 [ref. 26035]. •Treated as valid as Gobiosoma limbaughi Burgess & Axelrod 1984 -- (Rüber et al. 2003:1598 [ref. 26969]). •In the synonymy of Tigrigobius limbaughi (Hoese & Reader 2001). Nomen Nudum. Current status: Synonym of Tigrigobius limbaughi (Hoese & Reader 2001). Gobiidae: Gobiinae. Distribution: Gulf of California.

Current status: Valid as Tigrigobius limbaughi (Hoese & Reader 2001). Gobiidae: Gobiinae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: southern tip of Baja California Sur (Mexico) south to central Mexico, including southern and central Gulf of California (Mexico). Habitat: marine.
