Type catalog and nomenclatural comments: Fernholm & Wheeler 1983:213-214 [ref. 20707]. Not available, published in a rejected work (ICZN Opinion 57). Also not an independent species description, but a misidentification of Salmo niloticus Linnaeus 1758. Original spelling 'niloticys' dut to historical typeset, equals niloticus'. Based on Salmo niloticus Hasselquist 1757:338 [ref. 30182], also a rejected work (ICZ Opinion 57). Also seen as Linnaeus in Hasselquist. •Treated as valid as Distichodus niloticus (Hasselquist 1762) -- (Daget & Gosse 1984:185 [ref. 6185], Seegers et al. 2003:35 [ref. 28087]). •In the synonymy of Distichodus nefasch (Bonnaterre 1788) -- (Fricke 2008:17 [ref. 30182]). •Unavailable name -- (Toledo-Piza et al. 2024:445 [ref. 40817]). We regard this as available, with the "S." traced back to Salmo on p. 158 and agreeing with the style of the work.
