Current status: Synonym of Ptychochromis oligacanthus (Bleeker 1868). Cichlidae: Ptychochrominae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.

Syntypes: (6) RMNH 3936 (1, apparently too small to be a type). Type catalog: Fricke et al. 2018:258 [ref. 35805]. Specimens from Lake Pambilao described as var. nossibeensis.
