hoyi, Argyrosomus Milner [J. W.] 1874:86 [United States Commission of Fish and Fisheries, Report of the Commissioner v. 2 (for 1872-1873); ref. 17704] Syntypes: USNM 8902 (2) Hoy specimens, 35344 (1) a Milner specimen. Appeared first without distinguishing features (unavailable) in Hoy (ex Gill) 1872:99 [ref. 18119]. Lectotype designation by Koelz 1929 probably invalid. Appeared in Jordan (ex Gill) 1875:135 et seq., but apparently this is predated by Milner (and perhaps not the same species). If Milner was first, then the type is USNM 10756 from Outer I., Wisconsin, Lake Superior. The USNM lists USNM 8902 (2) and 35344 (1) as types. •Valid as Coregonus hoyi (Milner 1874) [usually with Gill as author] -- (Lee et al. 1980:81 [ref. 22416], McAllister 1990:80 [ref. 14674], Page & Burr 1991:44 [ref. 18983], Scott & Crossman 1998:246 [ref. 24570], Lyons et al. 2000:39 [ref. 26594], Nelson et al. 2004:85 [ref. 27807], Bailey et al. 2004:144 [ref. 27882], Scharpf 2006:24 [ref. 30386], Page & Burr 2011:389 [ref. 31215], Page et al. 2013:86 [ref. 32708], Page et al. 2023:82 [ref. 40505]). Current status: Valid as Coregonus hoyi (Milner 1874). Salmonidae: Coregoninae. Distribution: Eastern North America: Great Lakes (except Lake Erie) (U.S.A., Canada). Habitat: freshwater.
