Holotype (unique): MCZ 28479. •Valid as Leptochilichthys agassizii Garman 1899 -- (Markle & Quéro in Whitehead et al. 1984:255 [ref. 13675], Machida & Shiogaki 1988:5 [ref. 6622], Matarese et al. 1989:76 [ref. 26885] as agassizi, Markle & Sazonov 1990:244 [ref. 14215], Sazonov et al. 1993:43 [ref. 21498], Sazonov & Markle 1999:1893 [ref. 24739], Sazonov & Williams 2001:S6 [ref. 26712], Love et al. 2005:31 [ref. 37547], Williams & Stewart 2015:368 [ref. 34243], Fricke et al. 2018:64 [ref. 35805], Carneiro et al. 2019:77 [ref. 37250]). Current status: Valid as Leptochilichthys agassizii Garman 1899. Alepocephalidae. Distribution: Circumglobal in tropical and temperate seas; in eastern Pacific from Oregon (U.S.A.) south to Chile. Habitat: marine.
