R.] 1971:5, Fig. 1 [Publications of the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory Museum v. 2; ref. 19800] Río Yao, a left tributary of Río Cauto, 15 kilometers upstream from Bueycito, Munic. of Bayamo, Oriente Province, Cuba. Holotype: USNM 203913. Paratypes: GCRL 3636, USNM 203914 (6). Type catalog: Parenti et al. 1999:9 [ref. 24072], Faloh-Gandarilla et al. 2016:4 [ref. 35177]. •Synonym of Gambusia puncticulata Poey 1854, but a valid subspecies as described -- (Fink 1971:35 [ref. 21211], Lee et al. 1983:17 [ref. 22527]). •Synonym of Gambusia bucheri Rivas 1944 but a valid subspecies as described -- (Meyer 2015:64 [ref. 34698]). •Valid as Gambusia monticola Rivas 1971 -- (Rauchenberger 1989:3 [ref. 15687], Parenti et al. 1999:9 [ref. 24072], Lucinda in Reis et al. 2003:559 [ref. 27061], Lucinda & Reis 2005:41 [ref. 29205], Faloh-Gandarilla et al. 2016:4 [ref. 35177], Huber 2019:68 [ref. 36941]). Current status: Valid as Gambusia monticola Rivas 1971. Poeciliidae: Poeciliinae. Distribution: Eastern Cuba. Habitat: freshwater.
