Paratypes: CAS-SU 766 (2), USNM 46101-03 (3, 2, 1). Type catalog: Böhlke 1953:53 [ref. 12291]. Holotype established in caption for Pl. 5. Now extinct -- (Lazara 2001:98 [ref. 25711]). •Valid as Empetrichthys merriami Gilbert 1893 -- (Lee et al. 1980:506 [ref. 22416], Parenti 1981:516 [ref. 7066], La Rivers 1994:520 [ref. 23389], Grant & Riddle 1995:209 [ref. 22414], Wildekamp 1996:18 [ref. 23649], Lazara 2001:98 [ref. 25711], Scoppettone & Rissler 2002:82 [ref. 25956], Nelson et al. 2004:107 [ref. 27807], Page & Burr 2011:453 [ref. 31215], Page et al. 2013:104 [ref. 32708]). Current status: Valid as Empetrichthys merriami Gilbert 1893. Goodeidae: Empetrichthyinae. Distribution: Springs at Ash Meadows, Nevada, U.S.A. [extinct]. Habitat: freshwater.
