iheringi, Pseudothyrina Miranda Ribeiro [A. de] 1915:Trematolepides p. 11 [Arquivos do Museu Nacional de Rio de Janeiro v. 17; ref. 3711] Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Lectotype: MNRJ 2369A. Paralectotypes: MNRJ 2369 (1). Type information: Miranda Ribeiro 1955:394-395 [ref. 12732] as Pseudothryina iheringi. On p. 43 when continuously paginated. Spelled jheringi in original, with "Dedico a especie ao Dr. Hermann von Jhering, o autor dos "Peixes da Costa do Mar do Rio Grande do Sul"." The correct spelling is Ihering, and the name iheringi is used by Miranda Ribeiro 1918:43 [ref. 20859]; we regard jheringi as a lapsus. Lectotype selected by Miranda Ribeiro 1953:395 [ref. 12732] [but perhaps specimen not isolated]. •Synonym of Odontesthes argentinensis (Valenciennes 1835) -- (Dyer 1998:535 [ref. 23858] as jheringi, Dyer 2000:108 [ref. 26677], Bemvenuti 2002:256 [ref. 26202] as jheringi, Dyer in Reis et al. 2003:521 [ref. 27061], Koerber & Litz 2014:5 [ref. 34967], Koerber & Litz 2016:6 [ref. 35098]). Current status: Synonym of Odontesthes argentinensis (Valenciennes 1835). Atherinopsidae: Atherinopsinae. Habitat: freshwater, brackish, marine.
