Species originally published in Japanese in above reference, later illustrated and described in more detail in English and Japanese in Tanaka 1916:402, Pl. 109 (fig. 331) [ref. 14938]. •Synonym of Epinephelus cyanopodus (Richardson 1846) -- (Randall & Heemstra 1991:128 [ref. 19601], Heemstra & Randall 1993:136 [ref. 21042], Parenti & Randall 2020:66 [ref. 37354]).
