japonicus, Cottus Pallas [P. S.] (ex Steller) 1769:30, Pl. 5 (figs. 1-3) [Spicilegia Zoologica v. 1 (fasc. 7); ref. 20848] Kuril Islands. Holotype (unique): ZIN (apparently lost). Original spelling of name is Cottvs iaponicvs (historical typeset, equals Cottus japonicus). Based on manuscript description by G. W. Steller.
