Afdeeling Natuurkunde (Ser. 2) v. 2; ref. 424] Samberano River, Madagascar or Lake Pambilao, Nosy Be [Nossi-Bé], Madagascar. Lectotype: RMNH 3936. Syntypes: (6) RMNH 3936 (1, apparently too small to be a type). Type catalog: Fricke et al. 2018:258 [ref. 35805]. Specimens from Lake Pambilao described as var. nossibeensis. See Sparks 2002:126-127 [ref. 25893] for remarks on original locality. •Valid as Ptychochromis oligacanthus (Bleeker 1868) -- (Maréchal & Gosse 1991:417 [ref. 20961], Reinthal & Stiassny 1997:354 [ref. 22780], Sparks 2002:126 [ref. 25893], Sparks 2002:547 [ref. 26376], Sparks 2003:317 [ref. 27400], Loiselle 2005:38 [ref. 28224], Stiassny & Sparks 2006:47 [ref. 28788], Sparks & Stiassny 2010:47 [ref. 30695], Martinez et al. 2015:91 [ref. 34035], Fricke et al. 2018:258 [ref. 35805]). Current status: Valid as Ptychochromis oligacanthus (Bleeker 1868). Cichlidae: Ptychochrominae. Distribution: Northwestern Madagascar. Habitat: freshwater, brackish.
