Spelled atinga by some early authors. •Valid as Chilomycterus atringa (Linnaeus 1758) -- (Tortonese 1973:648 [ref. 7192], Tortonese in Whitehead et al. 1986:1346 [ref. 13677], Robins & Ray 1986:309 [ref. 23100] as atinga, Santos et al. 1997:131 [ref. 23531], Arruda 1997:123 [ref. 24952], Smith-Vaniz et al. 1999:357 [ref. 25013] as atinga, Menezes in Menezes et al. 2003:110 [ref. 27192] as atinga and author as Bloch 1785, Nelson et al. 2004:185 [ref. 27807]). •Unidentifiable, should not be treated as valid -- (Leis 2006:80-81 [ref. 28932] for discussion -- use reticulatus). Nomen Dubium. Current status: Synonym of Chilomycterus reticulatus (Linnaeus 1758). Diodontidae. Distribution: Atlantic. Habitat: marine.
