Based on the 'Ostracion triangulus, tuberculis exiguis innumeris' of Artedi 1738a:57 [ref. 30578]; 1738b:85 [ref. 30349] which was based on the 'Piscis triangularis ex toto cornibus carens' of Willughby 1686:Appendix p. 20 [ref. 30164], based on a manuscript description by Martinus Lister, and Ray 1713:45, No. 9 [ref. 30231], and on the 'Ostracion polyodon inermis triqueter' of Linnaeus 1754:60 [ref. 31115].
