Paratypes: (1) not researched. •Synonym of Lethrinus mahsena (Forsskål 1775) -- (Sato 1978:25 [ref. 8884]). •Valid as Lethrinus enigmaticus Smith 1959 -- (Kyushin et al. 1977:160 [ref. 19756], Carpenter in Carpenter & Allen 1989:55 [ref. 13577], Fricke et al. 2018:214 [ref. 35805], Carpenter 2022:320 [ref. 39786]). Current status: Valid as Lethrinus enigmaticus Smith 1959. Lethrinidae: Lethrininae. Distribution: Western Indian Ocean: South Africa, Seychelles, Saya de Malha Bank and Madagascar. Habitat: marine.
