Paratypes: SAIAB [formerly RUSI] 391-396 (1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1). •Synonym of Parascorpaena mcadamsi (Fowler 1938) -- (Eschmeyer 1986:469 [ref. 5652]). •Valid as Scorpaena maculipinnis (Smith 1957) -- (Paxton et al. 1989:448 [ref. 12442]). •Valid as Parascorpaena maculipinnis Smith 1957 -- (Nakabo 2000:578 [ref. 25086], Nakabo 2002:578 [ref. 26001], Allen et al. 2006:882 [ref. 29066], Fricke et al. 2016:423 [ref. 34135], Fricke et al. 2018:131 [ref. 35805]). Current status: Valid as Parascorpaena maculipinnis Smith 1957. Scorpaenidae: Scorpaeninae. Distribution: East Africa and Madagascar; Ryukyu Islands and southern Japan; northern Australia. Probably more widespread. Habitat: marine.
