Replacement name for Pristigaster argenteus Günther 1866, preoccupied by Pristigaster argenteus Schinz (ex Cuvier) 1822. •Valid as Opisthopterus dovii (Günther 1868) -- (Hiyama in Kumada 1937:27 [ref. 39147], Whitehead 1985:290 [ref. 5141], Allen & Robertson 1994:61 [ref. 22193], Bussing & López S. 1994:48 [ref. 23101], Whitehead & Rodriguez-Sánchez in Fischer et al. 1995:1415 [ref. 22830] as dovi, Chirichigno F. & Vélez D. 1998:141 [ref. 24555] as dovi, Castro-Aguirre et al. 1999:120 [ref. 24550] as dovi, Nelson et al. 2004:66 [ref. 27807], Love et al. 2005:25 [ref. 37547], Page et al. 2013:66 [ref. 32708], González-Murcia et al. 2019:290 [ref. 36544]). Replacement Name. Current status: Valid as Opisthopterus dovii (Günther 1868). Pristigasteridae. Distribution: Eastern Pacific: Pacific coast of southern Baja California Sur (Mexico) south to northern Peru, including Gulf of California (Mexico). Habitat: brackish, marine.
