Lectotype: MNHN A-7614. Paralectotypes: MNHN B-3103 [ex MNHN A-7614] (4), RMNH 3331 (2). Type catalog: Whitehead & Bauchot 1986:31-32 [ref. 9739]. Lectotype selected by Whitehead 1967:125 [ref. 6464]. •Synonym of Engraulis encrasicolus (Linnaeus 1758) -- (Whitehead et al. 1988:316 [ref. 5725], Whitehead 1990:228 [ref. 14039]). Current status: Synonym of Engraulis encrasicolus (Linnaeus 1758). Engraulidae: Engraulinae. Habitat: brackish, marine.
